Today is a Special Day

Happy Birthday, Jennifer, Today is your day!
Every day that we are given
is a day to celebrate
Just the fact that we are livin'
should put a smile upon your face

Oh, every now and then
there comes a day with a special meaning
Oh, every year about now
your birthday comes around
Today is Jennifer's birthday
Today is a special day
Today is Jennifer's birthday
Today is an exceptional day!

Everything seems a little bit sweeter
like the frosting on your cake
So strike up the band and pick up the meter
My feet want to dance around this place

Oh, every now and then
there comes a day with a special meaning
Oh, every year about now
your birthday comes around
Today is Jennifer's birthday
Today is a special day
Today is Jennifer's birthday
Today is an exceptional day!

The whole wide world seems a little bit brighter
like the candles on your cake
The feeling in my heart is so much lighter
With this light, a wish I'll make

Oh, every now and then
there comes a day with a special meaning
Oh, every year about now
your birthday comes around
Today is Jennifer's birthday
Today is a special day
Today is Jennifer's birthday
Today is an exceptional day!
Today is Jennifer's birthday
Today is a special day
Today is Jennifer's birthday
Today is an exceptional day!

You can do so many things
That you couldn't do before
I love it when you talk to me
Could you tell me a little more? 'bout...

Growing up, up, up. Growing up, up, up

You're so full of surprises
How did you get so smart?
Just let me sit and look at you
You're an ever-changing work of art And you're...

Growing up, up, up. Growing up, up, up
Growing up, up, up. Growing up, up, up
Connor's growing up, up, up
Growing up, up, up
Growing up, up, up ,up-a-shee-bup-a
Growing up

With each year that goes by
I'll make a little wish
That you always love what you become
For do we ever really finish?...

Growing up, up, up. Growing up, up, up
Growing up, up, up. Growing up, up, up
Connor's growing up, up, up
Growing up, up, up
Growing up, up, up ,up-a-shee-bup-a

I Got you a Present
Dana Ward ©2002

Oh Tony. I heard it's your birthday
And all your friends have gathered in one place
We are so glad that you invited us over
Now we'll do our very best to help you celebrate

Oh Tony. I got you a present
Just a little something to show I care
Oh Tony. I got you a present
'Cause I just couldn't find a better friend anywhere

Oh Tony. I am so glad you are in this world
And every year I think it more
I really do not know what I'd do without you
You are a wonderful example of exactly what a friend is for

Oh Tony. I got you a present
Just a little something to show I care
Oh Tony. I got you a present
'Cause I just couldn't find a better friend anywhere

Oh Tony
Do you remember the good old days?
Ah, we were so much younger then
As the years roll by I think I like you more
Yes, you're aging well, my timeless friend

Oh Tony. I got you a present
Just a little something to show I care
Oh Tony. I got you a present
'Cause I just couldn't find a better friend anywhere

Tony, this is for you.....I picked it out myself
It's nothing really........I hope you like it
Well, I know I didn't have to!
Yes, I should have!
Are you trying to guess?
You don't know what it is do you?
You can shake it, but don't break it!
Just tear the paper!.....Your welcome
You don't already have one do you?
Can I come over and play with it some time?

Make a Wish for Others
Dana Ward ©2002

Oh Alexandria, today your flame burns bright
And as you stand before your candles
With all your friends by your side
Remember there are boys and girls
Around the world
Who never had a cake like yours
So when you make your wish
Think of this
And make a wish for others
Make a wish
Make a wish for others
And with your breath
Send your wish
On it's way
And blow out the candles!

Musical Chairs
Dana Ward ©2002
It's Hannah's birthday party everybody gather 'round
Here's a little game to play where you have to race to sit down
You can sing and you can dance, you can even laugh with glee
But when the music stops you'd better run to get a seat

You put the chairs in a circle and you turn the music on
On the outside of the circle all the children march along
Oh they laugh and they dance, but they'd better be aware
That there are too many children and not enough chairs

At Hannah's birthday party
We're dancin' heel and toe
But you'd better be quick when the music stops
Or out you go!

At first you'll be a dancin' so light and fancy free
But when you least expect it, the music will cease to be
Oh everyone will scramble to get themselves a seat
But when the sittin's over, there'll be one left on their feet

Whoever loses out must take a chair away
And sit on the sidelines to watch the rest of the game
Oh soon there'll be a little friend a sitting by your side
And you can pat them on the back and say, "Oh well we tried"

Musical Chairs, Musical Chairs
Dancin' heel and toe
But you'd better be quick when the music stops
Or out you go!

Here's a little rule we have: You cannot push or shove
So keep your hands behind your back or to yourself is enough
For it's the one who is the quickest when all the music quits
Who gets to dance around again until it's time to sit

Now when the music stops, you'd better grab a seat
But you have to be nimble, you have to be quick on your feet
You can laugh and you can dance, but you had better be aware
That there are too many children and not enough chairs

At Hannah's birthday party
We're dancin' heel and toe
But you'd better be quick when the music stops
Or out you go!

And so the game continues, until one chair remains
And two children dance around to see who wins the game
So everybody cheer them on, let's clap and stomp our feet
For everyone will have a chair when there is cake to eat!

At Hannah's birthday party
We're dancin' heel and toe
But you'd better be quick when the music stops
Or out you go!

Musical Chairs, Musical Chairs
Dancing heel and toe
But you'd better be quick when the music stops
Or out you go!

The Tale of Rudy
Dana Ward ©2002
(The child's name is not sung throughout this song, but occurs
one time at the end).

Out in the deserts of New Mexico
Lived a handsome young donkey named Rudy Valentino
He lived in a Kingdom of donkeys there
Near a family of people, who always took care
To bring hay and carrots at each day's end
Near the village of Corta Cola
Our tale begins

Late in the evening the coyotes would howl
And the donkeys would gather around the corral
Rudy asked, 'Why don't you like their song?"
They told him that their intonation's all wrong
They stay out all night and they sleep all day
Better stick to your own kind, Rudy. Stay here and bray
Rudy! Rudy! All the little children would call out his name
Rudy! Rudy! His tail would bring him much fame

Rudy said, "I'd like to go out and play
I like the coyotes and their yippee-aye-a"
His mother said, "Rudy, please don't stay out late
If I ever lost you, my poor heart would break"
She put her foot down and three times she pounded
His father said, "Listen up Rudy
Or you're grounded"
One evening when it was time to come in
His folks brayed for Rudy, but he did not listen
He set out in search of a new song to sing
He found the coyotes and joined in their ring
And soon he was howling at the big yellow moon
He stayed out all night playing
Then he slept until noon
Rudy! Rudy! All the coyotes would call out his name
Rudy! Rudy! Come join our coyote games

Now coyotes are pranksters and they can play rough
They circled 'round Rudy and acted real tough
One coyote grabbed onto poor Rudy's tail
And gave it a yank! To the ground it fell
The coyotes ran off and left Rudy alone
And poor little Rudy went crying
All the way home
He said, "I'm so embarrassed at what I have lost
Look at what my misbehaving has cost
I should have listened to my Mom and Dad
Things would be different if only I had"
So Rudy hid out behind a big rock
And he would not come out not even
to eat or to talk
Rudy! Rudy! All the little children would call out his name
Rudy! Rudy! Will we ever see you again?

Later that evening a young boy came by
Behind the rock, Rudy's ears he did spy
He said, "Out in the desert, I found what you lack
Come out to see me and I'll put it back"
Rudy said, "No boy, just go away please
For I am much too embarrassed,
To be seen"
Now this little boy was exceptionally kind
He said, "For you Rudy, I will be blind"
So he tied his bandana 'round both of his eyes
Rudy came out and it took many tries
But the boy finally got Rudy's tail put back on
And soon he and Rudy were singing
Singing a song
Rudy! Rudy! All the little children would call out his name
Rudy! Rudy! His tail would bring him much fame

And that's how it happened at this story's end
Rudy and the boy became life long friends
They traveled together both near and far
Rudy would sing while the boy played guitar
And everyone said, "Aren't they spectacular!"
The boy's parents were thrilled for they never
Had to buy him a car
So whenever you go to a birthday party
And you're asked to play Pin The Tail On The Donkey
Just put on the blindfold and don't try to peek
With the tail in your hand, the right place you must seek
Just think of the boy, who to Rudy was true
And always remember that animals
Have feelings too
Rudy! Rudy! All the little children would call out his name
And on their birthdays, they'd play that donkey tail game.
They'd play that donkey tail game.
Happy Birthday Robert!

A Birthday Lullaby
Dana Ward ©2002

Bye, Bye
To those baby years
Oh they fly by so fast
Cry, Cry
All those baby tears
For never were they meant to last
And all I want to do is hold you
And hold back the hands of time
But the tick, ticking clock says that I cannot
And neither was I meant to hold on to you

Happy Birthday Ashley
Oh what fun we had today!
Happy Birthday Ashley
Dream away

My, My.
Oh my little one
Oh my how you have grown
Sigh, Sigh
Hear my heart rejoice
For the day that you were born
May all the years that pass hold good memories
I'll always remember who you've been
Please let this moment last a little longer
For you will never be this age again

Happy Birthday Ashley
May your path be starry bright
Happy Birthday Ashley
Dream tonight

And all I want to do is hold you
And hold back the hands of time
But the tick, ticking clock says that I cannot
And neither was I meant to hold on to you
These childhood days are precious few

Happy Birthday Ashley
Another year begins today
Happy Birthday Ashley
Dream away

Happy Birthday....Happy Birthday.... Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday....Happy Birthday.... Happy Birthday
